FUNERAL FOR TRAFFORD STALWART

THE FUNERAL of Paul ‘Tin Tin’ Thomas will take place on 20th January – we have had a message from the family which reads as follows:

“Everyone who knew Paul is invited to join his family for a celebration of his life at Peel Green Crematorium, M30 7LW on 20 January 2022 at 10.20am followed by refreshments at Patricroft Conservative Club, M30 7AW. Can we please ask that as Paul was a big Man City fan that anyone attending wear something sky blue. Family flowers only please as the family would like donations to Trafford FC.”

Universally known as Tin Tin (and sometimes Tommo), Paul passed away in Wythenshawe Hospital on Christmas Eve following a period of ill health. He was 71. His time at TFC began over 20 years ago when his son Gareth joined the club as a player. Paul and his wife Gail soon became active members of the club helping out wherever they could.

In only their second season as volunteers their supreme efforts saw them jointly awarded “Clubman of the Year” – an award which Tin Tin would go on to receive many times in future years. It is to his great credit that our annual volunteer-of-the-year honour bears his name alongside Foxy’s.

There weren’t many jobs that Paul wouldn’t put his hand to over the years, from divotting the pitch, ground maintenance, helping and cooking in the tea hut, turnstile operator, etc. etc. and even during his recent illness he continued to wash the kit.

The wit and wisdom of Tin Tin was a vital part of the team spirit behind the scenes at Shawe View, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and experienced his razor sharp humour. Rest in peace Tin Tin (a true Trafford Legend).

FA YOUTH CUP FIXTURE AT SHAWE VIEW!

This Thursday (1st September) is a big night for Trafford FC Youth when our Under 18’s team start their FA Youth Cup campaign with a home fixture versus Stalybridge Celtic U-18’s.

The FA Youth Cup is of course a massively prestigious tournament, won last season by Manchester United’s Youth team for a record 11th time. Around 400 clubs enter the tournament, and last season our youngsters defeated Glossop North End 4-1 in their opening tie, in front of nearly 400 supporters at the Home Estates Shawe View! It would be lovely to see a similar event tomorrow night………

Kick off is 7.45pm; Gates open at 6pm; Admission is £4 adults, £2 concessions, £1 under-16s; All our facilities will be open! SEE YOU THERE!

NEXT GAME – RUNCORN AWAY THIS SATURDAY!

TRAFFORD FC face Runcorn Linnets away this Saturday 14th September, kick off 3pm.
After a marvellous victory at Bridlington Town in the FA Trophy last week, Karl Marginson’s squad return to Pitching-In Northern Premier League action this weekend. The journey is much closer to home as we travel to our very good friends in Runcorn. All the details are in the flyer – it would be fantastic to see another great away-day following of Trafford fans supporting the boys in their quest for 3 more points! See you there!

DEADLINE SIGNINGS!

Ahead of this afternoon’s home game versus 1874 Northwich (kick off 3pm) Trafford are pleased to announce the completion of the signings of two players: Eddie Brown and Glenn Matthews.

Eddie was a young player at Bolton Wanderers and made seven appearances for The Trotters first team during the 2019-20 season. Most recently the 23-year-old forward has played for Hyde United and Wythenshawe AFC, whilst developing links with Trafford via coaching in our Youth set up.

Glenn is well known to Trafford supporters having played impressively for us last season and the early stages of the current campaign. Following the managerial change last October, 28-year-old Glenn (who was injured at the time) went to play for Daisy Hill in the NW Counties League. A tough and resilient defender, every TFC fan will be pleased to see him back in the squad.

See you this afternoon!

Margy Era starts with a draw

Trafford’s new era under the management of Karl Marginson got off to a decent start this evening, courtesy of a 2-2 draw at home versus Runcorn Linnets in front of 400 spectators at Shawe View on a cold Tuesday evening. The point was enough to lift the team off the bottom of the table – a small step in the right direction! Dave Law’s match report will be published soon, so as always – keep an eye open on this website and our socials!

MEET THE NEW MANAGER!

Trafford Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of its new manager, Karl Marginson.

Marginson is best known for his 12-year spell in charge of FC United. He was appointed as the Red Rebel’s first ever manager on its formation in 2005. Under Karl’s guidance FC rose from the North West Counties Division 2 to National League North in ten seasons. Three league titles were secured plus a fourth promotion via the playoffs. In addition to this, Karl led the club to two NW Counties League cup triumphs, and a Manchester Premier Cup victory before leaving Broadhurst Park in October 2017.

As a player, “Margy” appeared in the Football League for Blackpool, Rotherham, and Macclesfield. He then had a long and distinguished career in Non-League football playing for clubs such as Ashton United, Stalybridge Celtic, Droylsden, Chorley, Barrow, Salford City, and Hyde. Aged 35 he took the FC United job, and later spent some time as a football director and interim manager at Radcliffe Borough following his departure from FC.

Karl has recently been coaching within our own Trafford Youth set-up and has been a key figure in the successful establishment of our Under-21’s team this summer.
Chairman John Eadie said of his new appointment:

“Karl Marginson has vast experience and knowledge of non-league football. He has already brought his abilities and wisdom to our youth teams, and I believe he will now enhance the first team too. His track record is impressive, and we are keen to continue the link between ourselves and our youth section. I am looking forward to working with Karl.”

Joining Marginson at Shawe View will be assistant manager Harry Winter – a former Trafford captain who has also played for FC United and Stockport County. The new team is completed with coach Steve Tobin, who played for Leeds United’s FA Youth Cup winning team in 1993 prior to a long career in semi-professional football. Over the last few years, Tobin has been instrumental in the establishment and growth of Trafford FC Youth. Physio Paul Roberts and goalkeeping coach Paul Chapman remain with the club.

Of his new role Marginson himself said:

“I’m extremely grateful and unbelievably excited to be back in the game that has provided me with some of the greatest experiences and life lessons that I’ve been blessed to receive. This gratitude is firstly to the chairman and directors of the club for showing belief in my abilities as a manager to take charge of the next stage of Trafford Football Club’s development. I’m absolutely certain that the first team’s current position is a false one and I’m confident the quality squad of players that Danny has put together have the right kind of attitudes, behaviours and footballing ability, and are more than capable of producing the positive results and exciting performances that the directors, volunteers and supporters of Trafford Football Club deserve. This will lead to our current league position being turned around.

“Joining our backroom team are two people I’ve known for a long time and whom I have the utmost respect for, in Harry Winter and Steve Tobin. Harry and Steve are just as excited as I am about the prospects of the team’s development and I believe these appointments will enhance the quality staff already present whilst bringing additional expertise to the team. This I’m sure will enable a successful transitional period with minimal disruption which will be vital at such an important time. We can then move forward to what I’m hoping will be a successful period for the Club. I’m looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday – Onwards and upwards!!! Margy”

Karl’s duties as first team manager will commence immediately, and as alluded to in his statement, he takes charge of his first game this coming Tuesday at Shawe View when Runcorn Linnets are the visitors in Northern Premier League action (kick off 7.45pm). Welcome to Trafford, Karl!

Community stalwarts provide new stadium sponsor

Trafford FC is delighted to announce that we have entered a partnership with an Urmston based community care provider.
Our ground will now be known as the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium.
Pictured before our home match against Chasetown, proprietors, staff and service users of the company enjoyed the day as special guests to celebrate this new partnership.
Club chairman John Eadie said: “We wanted a stadium sponsor that reflected the community ethos and family values at the heart of the club – Away Day Care matched that in buckets.”
Jean O’Hara, the Managing Director of Away Day Care said: “I wanted to create a service that met a real community need, so in that regard we’re not that different to Trafford FC.
“Everyone at Away Day Care is looking forward to all the drama of the season ahead and getting down to support the team. We wish them the best of luck for the season.”

CLUB STATEMENT

Trafford FC:
CLUB STATEMENT
The last twelve months have been extremely challenging for the football club.
We have tragically lost Kath Flowers (tea lady), John Crook (volunteer and long-time supporter) and more recently Club Legends David Brown and Paul Thomas, all of whom worked so hard behind the scenes and on matchdays.
In addition, committee member Dave Abbott has moved out of the area, Adrian Halliwell has suffered a health scare, and several committee members are in the 70+ age bracket.
We are therefore seeking (a) to appoint at least two new committee members, and (b) volunteers who can help down at Shawe View either on match days or during the week.
If you would like to be considered for either of the above positions would you please contact David Law on 07772 287086 or dlaw8652@gmail.com
Thank you!
