Match Report

Trafford eased through to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Vase on Saturday with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Armthorpe Welfare.

The bone hard pitch once again made creative football difficult but despite this, Trafford dominated possession throughout.

Home keeper Josh Cadman pushed a Harry Norris header past the upright in the 10th minute and Scott Sephton nodded wide shortly afterwards.

Sephton then struck a long range effort well over before receiving a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Armthorpe’s Baz Lowe.

Tom Baker’s side thought they had taken the lead in the 28thminute when a cross from the left by Bile Ahmed appeared to be headed home by Luke Sephton but the referee surprisingly ruled the goal out for apparent hand ball.

Trafford were finally rewarded for their superiority in the dying seconds of the first half, the hosts failing to clear another long throw by Jacob May and Bile Ahmed heading in from just four yards.

Armthorpe came out strongly in the opening minutes of the second half but the Trafford defence, lead superbly once again by skipper Norris, held firm and after a Scott Sephton header was cleared off the line, they doubled their lead in the 59thminute when a free kick by Dave Worrall was headed back across goal and Luke Sephton arrived to bundle the ball home from close range.

In the 74th minute, the tie was as good as over when another slick move by Baker’s Boys ended with Kyle Worsley curling a beautiful left footed shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards to make it 3-0.

Brad Byrne and Worsley blasted shots inches wide before the latter created the fourth goal in the 83rd minute when he skipped past his full back and flighted a great cross to the back post where Bile Ahmed headed simply past Cadman.

Trafford pushed forward in search of further goals but the final whistle signalled an excellent victory for the visitors and they now host Charnock Richard in the Second QualifyingRound on Saturday 12th September.
