Trafford secured their position in the NPL West Division next season with an excellent 2-1 victory at Kidsgrove on Saturday.
Karl Marginson’s team started confidently with Matty Morgan seeing a spectacular overhead kick after just four minutes tipped over by Kieran Harrison.
In the 8th minute Trafford stormed ahead when a shot by Chris Rowney was blocked by Harrison with Niall Cummins following up to head into the empty net.
Morgan rifled a drive inches wide as the visitors dominated but they were stunned in the 23rd minute when Kidsgrove equalised against the run of play, Sam Booth blocking a 25 yard drive by Tyrone Cadeau but Kieran Brown reacting first to net the rebound.
Booth produced two fine saves to thwart Jake Lovatt and Lewis Holdham whilst at the other end a cracking drive from 25 yards by Trafford skipper Harry Norris was pushed past the post by Harrison.
The second half started slowly with both teams guilty of conceding possession too readily and defences generally on top.
However, in the 58th minute the hosts almost took the lead when a great cross from the right was headed against the crossbar by Jake Lovatt with Trafford scrambling the ball clear.
Five minutes later Niall Cummins struck again to put Trafford 2-1 ahead, turning a piercing low cross from Damola Sotona past Harrison from just two yards.
A crisp volley by Lovatt was held by Booth as the hosts sought a second equaliser and their cause was helped in the 66th minute when Trafford centre back Glenn Matthews was harshly sent off following a late but fairly innocuous challenge on Ross Davidson.
Trafford’s ten men defended brilliantly for the remainder of the game and keeper Booth was rarely troubled, centre backs Harry Norris and Jordan Fagbola repelling anything that was thrown into the penalty area whilst full backs Sean Higgins and Damola Sotona kept a tight rein on the pacey Kidsgrove wingers.
The final whistle signalled another excellent victory on the road for Trafford and they will be hoping to turn around their woeful home form on Saturday when they entertain promotion chasing Prescot Cables at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium in their final game of the season.
