The sending off of full back Sean Higgins in the 37th minute proved to be the turning point as visitors Newcastle Town coasted to victory with a dominant second half performance.
Trafford started confidently buoyed by last Saturday’s superb victory at Wythenshawe Town and almost took the lead in the 9th minute when Damola Sotona cut in from the right but fired into the side-netting.
Brad Byrne then found himself in space in the Town penalty area after neat work by Matty Lusakueno but shot straight at keeper Joe Slinn from 15 yards.
Town came more into the game as Trafford started to give the ball away carelessly and took the lead in the 30th minute when Ethan Vale struck a low drive through a crowded goalmouth and into the bottom corner with home keeper Sam Booth unsighted.
Seven minutes later Sean Higgins won the ball in a challenge with Jack Sherratt but referee Metcalf deemed it to be dangerous play and surprisingly red carded the home defender.
Trafford battled gamely but were undone once more in the 54th minute when Harry Norris lost the ball outside his own penalty area, Jake Twyford gained possession, and curled a delightful shot from 25 yards into the top corner.
Town were now in total control with Ethan Vale and Tim Grice both going close before the latter made it three in the 66th minute when he broke clear, rounded Booth and guided the ball home.
Karl Marginson’s side continued to play with great spirit and a stunning drive by Damola Sotona in the 70th minute was spectacularly tipped over the crossbar by Slinn.
Isaac Noble then saw his goal-bound shot brilliantly blocked by Town centre back Tom Thorley but was rewarded for his tenacity and endeavour in the 87th minute when he crossed hard and low from the left and substitute Cian Donohue bundled the ball in from two yards.
Despite this defeat, Trafford remain just two points outside the play-off positions with three games in hand on fifth placed Wythenshawe FC who they entertain this coming Saturday at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium, kick off 3 p.m.
