FAREWELL TO ASTLEY…..
Trafford’s club captain Astley Mulholland has decided to leave the club after last night’s game versus Nantwich Town.
The experienced midfielder racked up 112 appearances for the club over two spells – he initially played for us during the 2014-15 season, joining during Graham Heathcote’s spell in charge, and scoring on his debut against Marine FC at Shawe View in February 2015.
Astley then returned to the club at the start of Danny Caldecott’s reign, becoming a vital and consistent member of the team. He was made captain by DC in 2022.
Following Astley’s decision, current Boss Karl Marginson said:
“I want to thank Astley for his hard work during my short time at the club, he’s performed excellently when called upon and we wish him the very best of luck in whatever he chooses to do”
It goes without saying that everyone here at Trafford FC will miss Astley, and his wonderful family who were always here to support him and the team over the last 3-&-half years. All the best Skipper!
Trafford Exit FA Trophy
Trafford’s FA Trophy adventure, which saw them reach the 3rd Qualifying round, came to an end today at the hands of Premier Division side Ashton United. The 5-2 scoreline was somewhat harsh on Karl Marginson’s team – they were caught cold at the start of the game conceding two goals in the first nine minutes, but after that they were very close to the higher division side and played some good football – you can read more about that in Dave Law’s match report which will be uploaded later tonight.
Trafford are back in League action this coming Tuesday at home, when Mossley are the visitors to the AwayDayCare Shawe View, kick off 7.45pm
TWO NEW SIGNINGS CONFIRMED!
Ahead of our final pre-season friendly tomorrow (Saturday 29th July, at home, kick off 3pm, versus Atherton Collieries) Trafford FC is delighted to announce two further permanent signings to manager Danny Caldecott’s squad for the forthcoming season.
Defender Harry Sheridan is well known to us here at Shawe View, having done a couple of pre-seasons with us in the past. Injuries hampered Harry’s progress previously, but this pre-season he has looked strong and decisive at the back, with some excellent input into the team’s attacking play. Welcome to Trafford full time Harry!
Attacking midfielder Demitrius “Demi” Rhami has also impressed during our pre-season programme, with his skill and energy in midfield and wide positions. Demi was previously on the books of Tranmere Rovers, and is a quality addition to the squad for the season ahead. Welcome to Trafford Demi!!
Come and see our new boys, and the rest of the team, take on Atherton tomorrow! Doors open 1pm; Kick off is 3pm; All our facilities are open – hot & cold food, licensed bar & can bar. JAMES DEAN MEMORIAL GAME
What an amazing occcasion – Clitheroe FC hosted a memorial day and benefit match today (Sunday 25th July) in honour of former Clitheroe, and Trafford striker James Dean. “Deano” tragically passed away in May this year, aged just 35, leaving two young sons without a father. He was well known throughout non-league football following a long and distinguished career. James played for Trafford in the 2017-18 season, and also turned out for Ashton United, Stalybridge Celtic, Chorley, Altrincham, FC Halifax Town, Padiham, Bury and AFC Fylde amongst others.
In bright sunshine and a carnival atmosphere at Clitheroe’s Shawbridge stadium, ex-team-mates and friends of Deano’s took to the field in Clitheroe blue and Trafford yellow, to pay tribute to a man who’s life ended way too soon, and to raise a little bit of money for his boys to help them on their way.
The exhibition game that followed finished 7-2 to the Clitheroe legends, Trafford being hampered by a lack of subs which saw them down to ten men in the 2nd half. Add to that, the fantastic striking abilities of Clitheroe’s Neil Reynolds’ (FC Utd manager) 11-year-old son and there was no chance that any of the goalkeepers Trafford tried out, could keep those shots out!
What a great day, and the presentation to Deano’s dad of his actual No.10 jersey from his season at Trafford FC left hardly a dry eye in the stadium. We hope he was up there looking down on us with a smile. God bless you Deano!
TRAFFORD FC YOUTH IN FOOD DONATION INITIATIVE
Over the pandemic there are so many families that have found themselves in a crisis position where they cannot feed their children as well as they could before. Local businesses are supporting the Marcus Rashford campaign and opening their restaurants to give free food to those children in need during the school holidays. Trafford FC’s Youth Section, which numbers over 150 families amongst its membership, has begun an initiative to do its bit to help support families in need within our local community.
TFC Youth have a contact with a local gym who has confirmed that they will be taking in food donations, and they are asking not only their families but also families, friends and everyone at the Club as a whole (and indeed the whole community of Urmston-Flixton-Davyhulme) to help out by donating as much as you can. Items needed are as follows:
– Non-perishable items (ie. tinned food, pasta, rice, soups, cereals, porridge, crackers, anything with a long-life)
