TRAFFORD FC has a long-standing and close relationship with Trafford Veterans CIC. We were very proud to host their leaders Claire Wright and Chris Squires, together with some of their veteran colleagues, last Saturday for our home game with Macclesfield FC.
The football club asks the League each season for a home game on remembrance weekend so we can do just this – honour those who have served our country, and pay our respects with a minute’s silence before the game.
Prio to kick off v. Macclesfield, wreaths were placed on the centre circle, and the two teams plus match officials stood with our Veterans guests and the entire 1034 crowd, for an impeccably observed 60 seconds. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them……
SENSATIONAL WIN FOR UNDER-18’s!
With a sensational away victory against Gateshead FC’s Youth Team, our Under-18’s have reached the 1st round proper of the FA Youth cup for the first time in the history of the club!
Jeff Crewe’s Teenage Warriors had already won away at Lancaster City, Marine, and Southport, when they set off at 2pm on Monday 14th October to make the long journey to the North East.
The final score, a 3-2 victory for Trafford, the scorers being Terry Benson-Brewer, James Marsh, and Josh Rouse!
Let’s hope the 1st round draw favours US for once, and gives us a home tie at last!!
TRAFFORD 1 -0 GOLCAR UNITED
TRAFFORD breathed a huge sigh of relief this evening (Tuesday 8th August) following their narrow 1-0 win over Golcar United in the Emirates FA Cup preliminary round replay. Ally Brown’s 11th minute goal was enough to secure passage to the next round and a game away at Widnes on August 19th, who won their own replay at Longridge Town 5-1.
Dave Law’s match report will be published soon……
TRAFFORD GO TOP OF THE LEAGUE!
We know it’s early doors, but after five games of the NPL West season, Trafford have gone top with 4 wins this evening, following a 2-1 home win over Hanley Town – even more magnificent after Rio Clegg’s red card in the 28th minutes. Lawman’s full match report will be published later, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
TODAY’S GAME IS OFF
Sadly, today’s game versus Stalybridge Celtic has fallen foul of the heavy rain overnight. A pitch inspection by one of the match officials at 10am this morning has confirmed the playing surface is unplayable due to approximately 25% of it being under water. In addition, one entire side of the stadium is out of action for spectators due to being under about two inches of water. So to be clear – today’s game is OFF. A new date will be announced in the near future.
Our next game is this coming Saturday 4th January away at Bootle; Our next home game is 18th January when Witton Albion are the visitors.
TRAFFORD RESERVES HOME FIXTURE!
TRAFFORD FC’s UNDER-21 team last season has, for the new campaign, become the Club’s Reserve Team – we are very proud to announce.
The team will be playing in the Lancashire & Cheshire League on Saturday afternoons, and have begun their training and preparations under the leadership of manager Paul Barrow and his assistant Dave Morris.
Paul explains: “These young players have progressed through the Trafford FC Youth system, and have represented the club at Youth and Under-21 levels. Now is time for the next stage in their development as players and as human beings – to play regular football in an open-age league. It is in the Trafford FC Youth, and Trafford Football Club ethos, to help our young people to develop at the right pace – to take the right steps at the right time. Moving to Reserves level is the next stage in that process, and we cannot wait to get started!”
That start occurs on Saturday 27th July when the team will play on the beautiful surface of AwayDayCare Shawe View, kick off 3pm, versus Newton Vikings in a pre-season friendly. Admission is free, the bar will be open, and we’d love to see some of you down at Shawe View to witness the first game of our new Reserves Team!
FAREWELL LAMBO…….
Ahead of tomorrow’s home game versus Hednesford Town, we bring you the sad news that it will be Danny Lambert’s last game as he’s finding it extremely difficult to balance work, family, and playing.
When Lambo signed for us just before DC left, it was on the understanding that he’d see how it would work, but unfortunately after a few months of trying the situation is just too difficult, so he is having to say his goodbyes.
Margy says: “Lambo has been magnificent for us over this short period and his captaincy of the team has been a shining example of the brilliant lad he is. Whilst I’m gutted to be losing him, I totally understand his reasons for this extremely difficult decision and we all wish him the best.”
Danny has had two spells at Trafford – in 2015/16 he made 16 appearances for the club; His spell this season has yielded a further 13 appearances (including tomorrow’s game) most of which have been as captain. He scored a memorable goal against Runcorn Linnets at Shawe View in September.
In addition to Margy’s tribute, everyone at the club would like to wish Danny all the best. He’s been awesome this season, and will be missed massively. Thanks Lambo – you’ve been fantastic x
